Superintendent's Message

October 14, 2018

Demographic and enrollment studies in Harlandale are showing that although birthrates are lower in our area, we have been enrolling more students than have been leaving our district. We appreciate our community for choosing our schools for the quality of education our teachers provide which allows our students to perform at a high level in all aspects of their education.

GED classes are still open for enrollment.  We will host an assessment and registration event on Oct. 23 at 9 a.m., followed by orientation on Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. at College Café and Family Learning Center, 1502 Fitch. For additional information, please call 210-989-4453.

District Family Night will be hosted at McCollum High School on Oct. 17 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Community partners and local museums will feature “A Night at the Museum.” We enjoyed seeing our friends and neighbors at the National Night Out event on Oct. 2.  District 3 City Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran spoke to the crowd, students performed and prizes were awarded.

All military veterans are invited to be part of the Veterans Recognition Ceremony on Nov. 2, with a reception starting at 6 p.m. and recognition prior to kickoff.  With military ID, veterans will enter the game for free through the home side pass gate.  If you are a veteran and would like to participate in the ceremony, please contact the Public Information Office at 989-4355 for more information.

Support from local businesses is part of our school district’s culture.  We congratulate our partners at Don Pedro’s Restaurant on their 50th anniversary and thank them for their many generous contributions.

Congratulations to the 2018 Hall of Fame inductees.  Harlandale High School recipients are Javier “Jay” Mora and Antonio “Tony” Soto, Jr.  From McCollum High School, Jacob Garcia and Terry Raley were selected. Esequiel “Zeke” Mendoza was recognized for Community Service.  Harlandale ISD will honor all inductees at a banquet on Nov. 7 and during a pre-game ceremony the night of the Frontier Bowl.
