Harlandale ISD implements new program to help students

One of the largest state-funded afterschool programs is in full-swing across several Harlandale ISD campuses.

The Texas ACE 21st Century program helps students meet academic standards by providing an environment that promotes positive study habits and homework tutoring.

Students will also receive hands-on learning experiences by participating in team sports, cooking clubs, robotics, chess tournaments and enrichment activities in the realm of science, technology and the arts.

Additionally, the program will provide family and parental support services, as well as college and workforce readiness. Parents will be required to attend a certain number of events and services provided throughout the year to increase their child’s educational experience.

The program is offered at the following Harlandale ISD schools: Adams, Carroll Bell, Collier, Columbia Heights, Gillette, Stonewall Flanders, Terrell Wells and STEM Early College High School.

The program came to fruition after Harlandale ISD was awarded the Texas 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant earlier this year.
