Harlandale High School Head Athletic Trainer Ms. Mary Lou Vertetis was recently inducted into the Alamo Area Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame.

Vertetis joined Harlandale ISD in November 1987, right before the 24th annual Frontier Bowl, and became the first female athletic trainer in San Antonio.

“Athletic training has allowed me to join my two passions, which are helping people and my love for sports,” Vertetis said. “I am very appreciative of the support I have received from Harlandale ISD and team physician Dr. Jesse Delee.”

She has spent the majority of her life working with young adults, ensuring that they are physically fit as well as mentally and emotionally healthy.

“The most rewarding part of my job is working with student athletes who have been injured and setting up a program to get them back to competition,” Vertetis said. “I also enjoy working with student trainers and helping them explore careers in health care.”
