Harlandale High School’s Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) celebrated Health Professions Week by decorating classroom doors and offering to check blood pressure for free to administrators.

“We want to raise awareness about health professions and show spirit so that people will want to join our club,” HOSA President Stephny Garcia said. “I believe in this club so much.”

Stephny is a senior and hopes to study nursing at Texas State after graduation.

Last year, the club had 15 members and now it’s at nearly 40. They have three meetings a week, two of which are mandatory for members. In one meeting they talk about fundraisers and the other is dedicated to competition preparations.

“We did really good in competition last year so we want to be even more prepared now that we have a bigger club this year so it’s really exciting,” Stephny added.

The club hopes to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness in the next few weeks and will continue to do CPR certifications.
