Bellaire Elementary dedicates Community School Park

Bellaire Elementary students and the surrounding neighborhood can now enjoy a brand new Community School Park. The green space offers a jogging path, four exercise stations, a kickball/soccer field and a basketball hoop thanks to a partnership with San Antonio Sports and the City of San Antonio.

Harlandale ISD held a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the grand opening on April 18. The event kicked-off with a high-energy cardio fitness presentation by Bellaire Elementary P.E. and iPlay! students.

Superintendent Rey Madrigal, Councilwoman Rebecca Viagran, SA Sports President and CEO Russ Bookbinder, SA Sports Founder George Block and Bellaire Principal Leticia Cerda Rodriguez were on hand to celebrate the new park.

“As part of our children’s education, we at Harlandale promote healthy lifestyles and programs for our students,” Madrigal said. “We are proud to house new parks which benefit our children during the school day and are available to the whole community.”

Students will enjoy the park and facilities during school hours and the community can use it for exercise and recreation after school hours.

The park is supported by the John L. Santikos Charitable Foundation, a San Antonio Area Foundation Fund. Through this funding, a new gateway will be constructed showcasing the park hours and new signage.
