Three Harlandale ISD Bus Drivers competed in the Annual School Bus Roadeo held in Round Rock on April 22.

While none of the drivers advanced to the next level, they all came back with a better understanding of the buses’ maneuverability and improved their driving skills. They also received pointers on all aspects of bus operation, including student management.

Linda Trinidad has participated in the competition for the last 11 years and has previously brought back second place and third place trophies. She hopes to one day swoop the top prize.

Her daughter, Marisa Trinidad, followed in her footsteps and has competed in the Roadeo for the last three years.

“It’s always fun and really nerve-wracking, but I mainly want my mom to win,” Marisa said.

The mother and daughter duo got fellow Harlandale ISD bus driver Cynthia Vasquez to join in on the fun this year and they’re excited about making it a tradition.

Director of Transportation Christopher Ramirez praised his staff for volunteering their time to participate in the Roadeo.

“I am very proud of the drivers,” Ramirez said. “It is on their own time, it’s a voluntary basis and they went out there and they gave it their all and they did a good job, they represented Harlandale well.”

Harlandale ISD Bus Fleet trainer Rosa Garcia is behind the scenes of it all. Garcia spent many hours preparing and organizing so that the drivers could participate in the competition.

“Being available for my staff gives me peace of mind,” Garcia said.

Her participation in the Bus Roadeo has been behind the scenes since 2012. She arranges practice times, organizes information books for staff and attends meetings.

Several bus drivers also volunteered to be judges on the cold and rainy Saturday morning.

Way to go, Harlandale ISD Transportation!
