Vestal Elementary teacher John Libby recently won the second place in the fourth annual “Fuel Up to Play 60 Program Advisor Bulletin Board Contest.”

The statewide contest, sponsored by Dairy MAX, asked participants to design a creative bulletin board promoting dairy foods and health in the classroom. A total of 57 entries were submitted on Dec. 15.

Coach Libby began to work on the bulletin board since the beginning of the school year with the help of his KSHAC students. Together, they brainstormed ideas and ended up creating a football stadium-themed bulletin board featuring cows as the football players, chickens as the cheerleaders, and yogurt, cheese and milk as the fans in the stands.

“I’ve entered the contest for the past couple of years; and every year, the kids come up with ideas and themes of what we’re going to do,” Coach Libby said. “The bulletin board is not only fun for the kids to see in a gym setting, but it also helps promote healthy living and wellness.”

As the second place winner, Coach Libby received a $500 US Games gift card to buy brand new P.E. equipment.

“It’s very exciting! I get to go through my catalog and just start picking out items,” Coach Libby said. “Since we’re getting a new campus next year, I want to see what we’re going to need over there.”

Next year, Coach Libby plans to enter the contest again and hopes to win the grand prize.

“Who knows what next year’s theme will be, but hopefully we’ll win again!” he concluded.

Congratulations, Coach Libby!
