First and second grade Gifted and Talented (GT) students recently enjoyed an educational adventure at SeaWorld San Antonio.

Students visited three immersive ecosystems, Pacific Point Reserve, Ke-Re Reef and Discovery Point, where they got to feed seals and sea lions, feed and touch stingrays, and watch dolphins interact with their trainers.

“There was plenty of excitement and laughter as students tossed fish to barking sea lions,” GT Teacher Kimberly Chason said. “Students learned that sea lions are very vocal and social animals, while seals are naturally quiet and prefer to be alone.”

This field trip gave students the opportunity to make connections between what they have been learning about in class and the animals they saw and interacted with at SeaWorld. Students are currently exploring animal adaptations through the Project Lead The Way (PLTW) curriculum in their GT classes.
