Frank Tejeda Academy celebrates Class of 2018

Smiling faces, teary eyes and cheers filled Trinity University’s Laurie Auditorium as Frank Tejeda Academy celebrated its largest graduating class on June 1.

More than 100 graduates proudly crossed the stage to receive their high school diploma before family and friends to signify the closing of one chapter of their lives and the beginning of another.

FTA Principal Ricardo Salmon welcomed all the attendees and introduced graduate Abraham Pagan as the master of ceremonies.

Graduates placed their hand over their heart as fellow graduate Jalisa Martinez sang the national anthem.

HISD Superintendent Rey Madrigal and Exiting Board President Carlos Quezada delivered heartfelt congratulations to all the graduates and wished them the best of luck in their future endeavors.

“Tonight, your future begins. With a high school diploma in one hand, each of you will begin a journey with limitless opportunities,” Quezada said. “The world will be a better place because of your talents and abilities.”

Graduate Tiffany Sun Ryan shared her personal story about the many challenges she had to endure to reach this milestone. Losing her mom at 16 years old changed her life forever; however, she made the decision to attend FTA and follow her dream to go to college.

“I am extremely proud and humbled to share that I’ll be the first senior to graduate from FTA and attend a four-year university straight out of high school,” she said. “I will begin my fall term at the University of the Incarnate Word this August with the plan to live on campus, major in biology, and fulfill my dream of becoming a trauma surgeon.”

Madrigal concluded the ceremony by certifying the diplomas and congratulating the Class of 2018!

After moving their tassels, the graduates celebrated with cheers and applause and received warm embraces from friends and family members.

Congratulations, FTA Class of 2018! You did it!
