Olivia Robinson wins KENS 5 EXCEL Award

Leal Middle School ELA Teacher Olivia Robinson was selected as the KENS 5 EXCEL Award winner for the Harlandale ISD.

Robinson received the award and a $1,000 check from KENS 5 and Credit Human representatives in her classroom on April 2. Principal Ricardo Salmon, district officials and her students were also present to celebrate the special moment with Robinson.

“Never in a million years would I have through that I would be awarded with something as special as this,” Robinson said. “I know that I work with a lot of deserving and hardworking teachers in Harlandale ISD, so I am honored to be the chosen recipient.”

Robinson also took the opportunity to thank her students for motivating her every day.

“You guys make it really fun to come to work every day. You are one of the best group of seventh graders that I have ever had. This one is for you all,” she told them.

Robinson’s drive and passion for education earned her the prestigious award. Her teaching style is known to be as relatable and engaging, which allows her to connect with her students in a meaningful way.

“My ultimate goal for my students is that they learn the skills that they need to be productive members of our community. At the end of the day, they are our future,” Robinson concluded.

During her time at Leal Middle School, Robinson has become the seventh-grade ELA team lead teacher, implemented a district buddy read program, organized family literacy nights and spearheaded the student leadership organization IMPACT (Inspiring Our Middle School Peers As Conscious Teens).
