Third annual ACE Summer Camp

The Texas Afterschool Centers on Education (ACE) program at Harlandale ISD kicked off its third annual Summer Camp this week and will continue until July 18.

The six-week camp will offer students in the Harlandale ISD community a variety of hands-on activities related to STEM, robotics, fine arts and recreation.

With a fun-filled “Camp” theme this year, students will learn how to build a tent, how to fish, how to find their location using a compass, develop wilderness medical survival skills and more. They will also enjoy nature walks, compete in STEM and robotic challenges and participate in dance, art, music and theater activities.

“Each summer, our ACE Summer Program benefits the students by bringing new and engaging experiences to them that they may not normally have in the regular school year,” ACE Project Director Danielle Grant said. “We pride ourselves on being able to extend student summer learning through hands-on activities that will assist in making students prepared for the next grade level.”

The camp is designed to offer fun and engaging activities for every grade level. Middle school students will learn how to use a bow and arrow through archery activities, cook outdoors using Dutch ovens and build tents out of cardboard and other recycled materials. High School students will work collectively on a service-learning project, where they will renovate a designated space for a community clothes closet.

The camp is taking place at the following campuses: Adams ES, Carroll Bell ES, Collier ES, Columbia Heights ES, Gillette ES, Stonewall Flanders ES, Terrell Wells MS and STEM Early College HS Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

“Through our constant partnerships within Harlandale, our ACE summer programs have consistently been a success,” Grant added. “Students and families look forward to it each year.”

Registration is available online at until June13 (unless space is still available).
