Mr. Rey Madrigal, a life-long educator, was named Superintendent in February 2013. madrigal

Raised in the community where he attended Adams Elementary and Harlandale Middle School, Mr. Madrigal graduated from Harlandale High School in 1982.   A Special Education Teacher and Coach were his first roles in education, starting in 1986.  He took on both roles at his alma mater as well as at McCollum High School, and later became the Athletics Coordinator and Head Football Coach.  In the years to follow, Mr. Madrigal started climbing the administrative ladder.  He served as Vice Principal at McCollum High School, Principal at Harlandale Middle School, and then was named Principal at Harlandale High School in 2005.  He was able to transform the school from Academically Unacceptable to Recognized by the Texas Education Agency from 2008-2010.  A year later, Mr. Madrigal was chosen as the Assistant Superintendent for Operations where he saved the district more than $100,000 in overtime costs and was overseeing the completion of Bond 2006 & Bond 2009. Mr. Madrigal was named Interim Superintendent by a 5-0 vote of the Board of Trustees on June 21, 2012.

Because he is an educational leader, Mr. Madrigal has been invited to present at several conferences, including the National Leadership Conference on Effective Schools in the 21st Century and the 2011 Principal’s Forum.  There is no denying Mr. Madrigal’s commitment to education or to the children of Harlandale.  He has spent over 30 years serving students and has even helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for scholarships by organizing golf tournaments and participating in fundraisers.

Mr. Madrigal received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas at San Antonio, Master of Science in School Administration from Texas A&M University at Kingsville and Superintendent’s Certification from the Region 20 Texas Superintendents’ Certification Institute.

Mr. Madrigal is married and has two daughters who both graduated from the district. In his free time he enjoys fishing and barbecuing.
