Superintendent's Message

January 23, 2019

The Harlandale ISD commemorates School Board Recognition month during January. We thank the Board of Trustees for their commitment to our students, staff, schools, and community and for their leadership.  Our elected board members make personal sacrifices, spending countless hours without compensation to establish school policies that reflect our community’s belief in public education.  The decisions they make enhance the opportunities for our students’ success.  We extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to our Board of Trustees.

Regular school attendance is essential, and absences may disrupt a student’s mastery of the instructional materials. When a student returns to school from an absence, a note describing the reason for the absence signed by the parent must be presented to the attendance office. It is the responsibility of the parent to ensure absences have been accounted for through documentation.

Safety is an ongoing concern of ours, and for this reason at our elementary schools, the front door is programmed to lock at 7:45 a.m. and unlock at 3:15 p.m.  It will remain locked throughout the day. Entry into the campus is granted upon verification of a state or government issued ID.  Upon entry into the school, visitors will report to the front desk where they are issued a printed visitor’s badge.  This provides a more secure and controlled access to our elementary campuses.

This school year, 100 percent of our students are in compliance with immunization requirements. Thanks to the diligence of our parents, nurses and school administrators, our student population is safe-guarded by having their shot records up-to-date.  Our healthy schools offer children the opportunity to enjoy physical education, nutritional meals and extra-curricular activities in a well-rounded education environment.
