Bank surprises Vestal Elementary with holiday gifts

The holiday spirit came early for a total of 195 Vestal Elementary students Friday morning.

The BBVA Compass Bank donated toys to students in kindergarten, first grade and second grade from Vestal Elementary.

This was part of the bank’s Blue Elf Project, which aims to help families during the holiday season.

“As part of the community it is always important to be involved and give back,” BBVA Compass Business Banking Officer Yadira Medina said.

Every year, the bank selects a school to surprise with gifts. When Medina participated in Vestal’s Career Day earlier this year, she knew Vestal Elementary would be her pick for this year’s Blue Elf Project.

“I was so impressed with the way that not only was the school very involved, but the parents too,” Medina added. “They’re so invested into each one of the students that whenever I was asked what school should get gifts this year, I was like, ‘Vestal, no questions asked,’ and I’m glad that our bank decided the same.”

Students received an assortment of gifts varying from Play-Doh sets to Troll dolls and board games. As part of the gift reveal, representatives from the bank also read the students a book and decorated sugar cookies.

In addition to the toys, each students also received a $25 voucher for a new savings account.

The youngsters were thrilled with the surprise visit and thanked BBVA Compass for their generosity.
