Frank Tejeda Academy (FTA) recently hosted a Hot Chocolate Social to celebrate this year’s Bronco Mentoring Program.

The program, which began in November, is committed on building strong mentoring relationships to empower students to succeed.

This year, Harlandale ISD Cabinet members, FTA teachers and Curriculum and Instruction Department staff members volunteered to mentor to a total of 121 FTA students. Most mentors are mentoring two students while teachers at Frank Tejada Academy are mentoring one.

“Frank Tejeda Academy is a unique school that educates students from all over HISD,” Harlandale ISD Middle School Math Instructional Coach Darlene Roebuck said. “It is our hope that through the mentoring program, our students at Frank Tejeda Academy will receive the additional inspirational support from our mentors to guide them as they complete high school and transition into their future endeavors.”

The mentors and mentees meet face to face twice a month and stay in touch through email, the Remind App or through an old-fashioned handwritten note delivered to the school.

During the Hot Chocolate Social, the students and mentors had the opportunity to spend some quality time together while they enjoyed a delicious cup of hot chocolate with various toppings and cookies.

The school is also planning to host a pizza party, video game tournament and an intramural sports tournament in the spring semester.
