Harlandale ISD fifth grade Gifted and Talented (GT) students recently visited the Southwest Research Institute.

During the visit, the students had the opportunity to meet two engineers and tour the facility. The engineers spoke to the students about their past experiences on a robotics team and current projects that the Southwest Research Institute had worked on.

The guided tour included a visit to the Robotics Bay where the students were able to drive around some of the company’s robots. Students also enjoyed a ride on a large robot and received a mini lesson on infrared cameras and lasers.

“Students in the fifth grade GT program have been learning about inputs and outputs, and soon they will begin building robots of their own,” GT Teacher Juanita Oropesa said. “The students did an amazing job representing our district and GT program.”
