Community and business partner Joe Diaz, along with Gilbert Elementary Principal Herlinda Martinez-Longoria, recognized campus social worker Jennifer Montes for her unwavering dedication to the district and the community at the school’s PTA meeting on Thursday.

It was Diaz’ idea to honor Montes with a plaque and Longoria quickly jumped on board.

“Ms. Montes does so much in organizing various student activities, community drives, staff support, campus PR and her regular social worker duties,” Longoria said.

Before the surprise presentation, Longoria added that Montes puts in countless hours finding ways to help families in need and to serve the community.

“This individual’s efforts have not gone unnoted either by her peers or members of the community,” Longoria said.

Montes humbly accepted the award and was surprised with a grant from Community First Health Agency.

The $2,303.68 check will go toward the Hip Hop and Sports Afterschool Program they have on campus.

“Ms. Montes is always applying for grants and looking for ways to bring activities to our students,” Longoria added.

The check presentation was a testament to all the hard work Montes does throughout the year to ensure Gilbert students have access to activities and programs.

The PTA meeting was followed by the schools exciting Science Fair, STEM and Health and Wellness Night.

Congratulations, Ms. Montes and Gilbert Elementary!
