Frank Tejeda Academy got a special visit from CEO of Goodwill Industries San Antonio Kevin Bergner.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss the Career Navigator program at the campus and for the CEO to sit in on a Goodwill Career Navigator class.

Harlandale ISD partnered with Goodwill last spring to offer this program at Frank Tejeda, McCollum and Harlandale HS.

Frank Tejeda’s Career Navigator, Tina Hill, is employed by Goodwill and visits the campus three times a week. Her class is part of the English IV curriculum.

As part of the program, Hill meets with students, updates a bulletin board with job opportunities, helps students polish their resumes and helps them prepare for job interviews.

“It’s just that connection from what do I do when I leave Tejeda if I’m not going to go to a post-secondary school,” FTA Instructional Coach Ruben Garcia said. “It’s a way to help students find employment so that they don’t end up on the couch after they graduate.”

Garcia added that the meeting with Bergner went really well.

“He is excited about what we do and how we do it,” Garcia said. “He really wants to see how we can expand to help our students.”
