It was an evening filled with laughter and tears as Harlandale ISD celebrated its summer graduation ceremony on Aug. 23.

Wearing their cap and gowns, the Class of 2017 summer graduates were welcomed with a standing ovation as they entered the McCollum High School auditorium.

To begin the ceremony, Harlandale ISD Board of Trustees President Carlos Quezada delivered a special message to all the graduates.

“Tonight, you become a graduate of the best school district in the state of Texas. Tonight, your future begins,” Quezada said. “Your dedication, all the hours of school work, and giving up your summer to finish the requirements is going to pay off tonight.”

District representatives and family members applauded as all 10 of the summer graduates from Harlandale High School and Frank Tejeda Academy were called to receive their high school diploma.

Frank Tejeda Academy Principal Ricardo Salmon and Harlandale High School Head Counselor Denise Flores were present to certify the candidates.

As every graduate shook the hand of their principal and counselor, everyone could see a sense of pride in their smiles as one chapter of their lives had been successfully completed. Families and friends cheered, some loved ones even shed tears, as they posed for the traditional photo with their principal and counselor.

HISD Superintendent Rey Madrigal also congratulated the graduates and wished them luck in the future.

Congratulations to all of the graduates!
