Harlandale ISD’s JROTC Cowboy Battalion and Indian Battalion both recently received an Honor Unit with Distinction (HUD) rating during their accreditation evaluation this week.

The HUD rating is the highest award an Army JROTC unit can receive and Cadets are awarded a gold star to wear on their uniform.

The accreditation program is considered a special purpose program certified by AdvancedED Standards for Quality and is designed to be a comprehensive evaluation that emphasizes continuous improvement in teaching and learning.  The accreditation process occurs every three years and is instrumental in evaluating the success and improvements of a JROTC Program

The inspection evaluated seven areas including the In-Ranks Inspection, Staff Continuous Improvement Brief, Service Learning Brief, Cadet Portfolio’s and Interview, Color Guard, Unit Report and Instructor Portfolio’s and Interview.”

The JROTC instructors had great things to say about their cadets:

“Sergeant Major Wright and I are very proud of our cadets, their dedication and hard work being recognized speaks volumes about the quality of students in JROTC”, McCollum JROTC Instructor James Roybal said.

“Congratulations to all of the Cadets that participated in the evaluation and for continuing the tradition of ‘Indian Pride,’” Harlandale JROTC Instructor Llanas said.
