Harlandale ISD principals and administrators officially kicked off the United Way Fund Drive on Sept. 27.

The drive will continue until Oct. 13 and this year’s theme is: “Heart of the Community.”

United Way is a worldwide program which focuses on helping people with basic needs, including food, clothing, shelter and safety – all while engaging the community to get to the heart of the problems.

In San Antonio, United Way is committed to improving early care and education for children, helping students succeed in school and strengthening families.

Harlandale ISD employees have the opportunity to donate and contribute to numerous local organization and nonprofit charities, including the San Antonio Education Partnership (SAEP).

“We operate Café College, and scholarships are a major component,” SAEP Outreach and Development Officer Emilio Arriola said. “In 2016, 290 students from Harlandale ISD received a scholarship, and it’s because of support from all of you that we are able to do this – your dollars go a long way.”

Through community initiatives like this fund drive, United Way will continue its mission to change people’s lives.
