A total of 22 Harlandale ISD parents recently received a Certificate of Completion for attending the “Parenting Wisely: The Young Years” parenting class.

The class met once a week for seven weeks, where they learned various parenting methods on how to improve family relationships.

“The methods not only build respect among family members, but also reduce the number of fights and arguments,” HISD Parent and Adult Education Coordinator Ruth Zambrano said.

Methods taught included “I” statements, setting consequences, assertive discipline, active listening and consistency.

“Parents attending the class believe that the parenting and communication skills learned has helped them to improve family problems,” Zambrano added. “The class has helped them to be more confident, to better communicate with their children and to listen to them before reacting.”

The parents have really enjoyed attending the parenting classes.  One parent stated, “Great program – I really hope more people attend, it’s a great course.”
