Alcohol Awareness Speake

In collaboration with Communities in School, Harlandale HS and McCollum HS featured a special Red Ribbon Week presentation focused on the consequences of drinking and driving.

As part of the presentation, Sarah Panzau Evans shared her testimony as a survivor of a near fatal car accident in 2003 that changed her life forever.

With a blood-alcohol level nearly four times the legal limit, Evans drove home drunk and was in a car accident that resulted in a traumatic left arm amputation along with more than a dozen other injuries.

Prior to the accident, Evans had quit school and had given up a full ride volleyball scholarship. She had gone from a two-time all American Volleyball player to bartender.

After the accident, Evans went through nearly 40 surgeries and has shared her story with more than 90,000 teens.

Harlandale HS and McCollum HS students listened intently as Evans told her journey on finding courage, determination and the importance of making good choices.

A big thank you to Sarah for sharing her story with Harlandale ISD students!
