The Harlandale Middle School Robotics Team won the Honorable Mention for the dog houses they built during the 2018 Barkitecture San Antonio competition on April 14.

The citywide competition featured a total of 22 teams comprised of middle school, high school and college students, all competing to build the best dog house in San Antonio.

“Only three places were awarded, and we won our trophy because we used 90 percent recycled material,” Teacher Richard De La Rosa said. “We had some very stiff competition with us being one of the two middle schools that entered among high school and college level competitors. I’m super proud for all the students’ hard work.”

The one-of-a-kind dog houses were judged and auctioned off to the public in a silent auction, with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to pet rescue and adoption nonprofits. HMS’s houses were sold for approximately $250.

Congratulations, students!

Team: Seventh graders Casey Taylor and Brayden Herrera; eighth graders Magdalena Keller, Jose Davilia, Brandon Sanches, Jenifer Garcia, Erly Garcia and Wyatt Flores; and sixth grader James Perez.
