HMS unveils ‘This is Braves territory’ art mural

A new art mural was recently unveiled at Harlandale Middle School in an effort to build school pride and spirit.

The four-piece panoramic mural features the message “This is Braves Territory” painted in red and white colors along with a striking image highlighting the eyes of the brave.

“We wanted something that had this intense stare and something that would stick out to students and visitors,” HMS Principal Ricardo Marroquin said. "The response has been awesome, our students are very proud of it and have been sharing it with their friends and families.”

Designed by Houston-based company Eyeful Art, the captivating mural is on display outside of the school’s gym in the courtyard area.

“I wanted students to have something that was athletic, competitive and bold since we were going to put it in our gym,” Marroquin explained.

Marroquin thanks the school’s PTA and student councils who worked hard to raise the funds needed to complete the mural. The total cost was $6,500.

“We didn’t expect to have it this soon, but everyone worked together to get it done,” he said. “We could not be happier with how it came out.”

This is the fourth beautification project completed since Marroquin joined HMS and is already thinking of the next one.

“We want to liven up our campus, and this mural is a great addition to all the other murals already located in our campus,” he added. “We hope to add a fifth one sometime next year.”
