Harlandale HS wins high school chess tournament

All four Harlandale ISD high schools competed against each other in a six round Swiss-style chess tournament held at STEM Early College High School on Dec. 15.

A total of 10 students competed for the top three trophies. The Harlandale High School team went on to seep the top five spots. Way to go Indians!

Third place to 12th grader Richard Hernandez III with a record of four wins and two losses.

Second place went to 11th grader Caleb Lara with a record of five wins and one loss.

First place went to 11th grader Johnathan Guerra with a perfect record of six wins and no losses.

“The chess sponsors from each campus were instrumental in preparing students for the event, and they look forward to the spring chess tournaments,” McCollum High School Chess Sponsor Edmundo Garza said.
