A total of 16 Harlandale ISD parents donned graduation gowns and received a diploma for completing the Pre-K 4 SA grant funded program ‘Raising Highly Capable Kids’ presented by Communities in Schools on Dec. 12.

Graduate Amparo Flores took the course to not only help herself become a better parent, but to help her children grow up to be people of good.

“I needed to know how to properly teach my kids how to have respect, responsibility, to love people, to help them and this class came at the right time,” Flores said. “It met all of my expectations and now I know how to guide my children.”

Flores has a student in Pre-K 4 at the Fenley Center and a third grade student at Columbia Heights.

“We weren’t born knowing how to be parents, so these type of classes are necessary so that you are prepared when your child needs help,” Flores said.

The same course will be offered again next semester starting in January.

“We’re inviting all parents to come and learn about how to place boundaries, how to manage their time and over all the skills they need to feel better as parents,” Communities in Schools Program Facilitator Isela Vilchis said.
