Harlandale ISD cheer teams shine at competition

Cheer teams from Morrill Elementary and Harlandale Middle School performed at the Texas Cheerleader Open State Championship at St. Mary’s University on Jan. 15.

Both teams came in first place in their respective categories and Morrill received the “High-Point” award for receiving the highest score at the competition, which means they even beat high school scores.

The success continued for Morrill Elementary as both teams competed at the NCA in Dallas on Jan. 21-22. Morrill Tigers received first place with a high score of 93.1 percent.

This is the biggest cheer competition in Texas and schools from all over the nation come to compete.

“These accomplishments symbolize team unity and perseverance,” Morrill Cheer Co-Sponsor Stephanie Corona said. “These students work very hard in the classroom and at practice. We also have amazing parent support, our parents work very hard to support their children’s aspirations.”
