Harlandale ISD creates an advisory committee for CTE Program

Beginning Fall 2017, Harlandale ISD is changing the way we look at Career Technology Education.

The CTE Department held a bridging committee meeting on May 30 to inform the community about the creating of an Advisory Committee for each career cluster HISD has to offer so we can better prepare our students for their future.

“Having this advisory committee will benefit our students because they will know someone in the industry they are interested in.” CTE Coordinator Tracy Anderson said. “They can start networking and see that what they are learning and doing in the classroom is important and they will know what they will need to do in order to be successful after high school.”

With the help of industry leaders, college and military recruiters and the community this committee can bridge the gap between high school, industry and post-secondary education.

“A wide range of people attended our first bridging meeting from Goodwill to the McDonald’s local owner and different doctors around the San Antonio area, such as an R.N. that teaches at the University of Texas Health Science Center,” Harlandale High School CTE Department Chair Raynaldo Garza said. “Our entire counseling staff along with our vice principal and teachers from both high schools attended, which shows that we all believe that this is a way to open doors for our students.”
