Harlandale ISD gets groovy for HEF Employee Fund Drive

The Harlandale Education Foundation (HEF) Employee Fund Drive last year was a big success raising $65,584.05. This year, Harlandale ISD is encouraging everyone to keep the momentum going and help raise $70k!

To celebrate, Harlandale ISD hosted its annual HEF Employee Fund Drive Kick-Off Breakfast at Don Pedro Mexican Restaurant on Jan. 31 with a fun 70’s theme: “Let’s get groovy for HEF!” The actual fund drive will take place Feb. 6-20.

Campus coordinators and administrators enjoyed a delicious breakfast, courtesy of Don Pedro, and received information to make this year’s Employee Fund Drive the best one yet. Every donation will be matched dollar for dollar by a special friend of Harlandale.

Special messages from HEF Board President Jim Adams, Superintendent Rey Madrigal and HEF Scholarship recipients.

Frank Tejeda Academy senior Niko Camile thanked Harlandale ISD for encouraging him to further his education. His dream is to become a social worker.

“Harlandale has shown me nothing but love and support in advancing my education,” Niko told the crowd. “I was once a foster kid, so my upbringing was kind of rough. My heart is with the kids so I hope to become a social worker. I just want to thank my mom, principal and teachers that I have at the campus, I really appreciate it.”

Attendees cheered and thanked him for sharing his experience.

To get everyone excited about HEF scholarships, Leal Middle School Principal Ricardo Salmon performed “Money (That’s What I Want)” with help of principals and coordinators dressed up in fun, groovy attire.

HEF hopes to create a college-going community by offering a $625 or $1,250 scholarship to every Harlandale ISD graduate who shows proof of attendance at any college, university or technical school.

Let's have a groovy 2018 HEF Employee Fund Drive!
