Harlandale ISD’s Elementary Transition Fair will welcome all fifth grade students from all 13 elementary campuses to help them as they transition from elementary to middle school. The fair kicked off on Jan. 24 and will continue until Jan. 29 at the Scheh Center.

“It’s exciting because it’s something we have been planning to do,” Harlandale ISD Coordinator of Counseling and Health Services Deborah Hernandez said. “I want to give credit to the elementary schools that feed to Leal Middle School because this was their brain child project and have been doing it for about three years. Now, we’re excited to be able to provide this awesome opportunity to all fifth graders in the district.”

During the fair, the young students will be able to meet their future principal and participate in a variety of sessions and activities addressing various pressures of middle school, organizational skills, and college and career readiness.  The fair will also feature fun STEM learning activities, a middle school student panel and a parent information session.

The fifth graders and their parents will also learn about passing periods, different school subjects, sports and extracurricular activities offered at their middle school.

“This is just the beginning of the transition,” Hernandez added. “Our goal is to give them a larger vision of what to expect and get them to start thinking about what they can do while in middle school and high school so they can go to college and be the best that they can be in their future.”
