The Harlandale ISD Elementary Instructional Coaching team hosted a coaching symposium “Coaching to Empower” at Central Office on Feb. 23.

More than 20 teachers joined the team to learn more about instructional coaching and skills they could take back to implement in their classrooms and on their campuses.

They participated in activities that represented the importance of trust in a partnership, promoted reflection and deepened conversations.

The mission of the Harlandale Instructional Coaching program is to increase the success of teachers and students by inspiring excellence in the teaching profession.

“Through a coaching partnership, the instructional coach provides opportunities for reflection of a teacher’s instruction, professional growth, collaboration and implementation of effective practices which will foster student growth,” HISD Lead Instructional Coach Rita Garza said.

Many teachers left the symposium feeling inspired saying:

“As a sixth-year teacher, this by far was one of the best professional development I have been to.  I gained several skills that can be applied in many aspects of our lives.”

“Your passion is contagious and inspirational.”

“Great tools to turn over to campus and develop empowering relationships.”

“I am so empowered by this coaching symposium and excited to take what I have learned and apply it.”

Garza hopes to see more teachers at the next Instructional Coaching Symposium on March 30. For more information, please call Rita Garza at (210) 989-4471.
