Harlandale High School senior Ingrid Garcia became San Antonio’s area all-time leading scorer in girls soccer.

Ingrid scored a whopping five goals in an 8-1 victory over SW Legacy High School on Jan. 30, pushing her career total to 172 goals.

When Ingrid learned the news, she couldn’t believe it.

“I wasn’t expecting it,” Ingrid said. “Soccer is everything for me, it’s my whole life, so this is very exciting!”

Ingrid began playing soccer at the age of 9 and hasn’t stopped since. She is motivated to play every day and hopes to finish her high school career with 200 goals. Every goal that she scores holds a special significance for her.

“I dedicate all of my goals to my older brother who passed away,” she said.

Ingrid also credits her team and coaches for every achievement accomplished.

“I’m very grateful for my coaches and team,” she said. “It’s because of them that I am able to accomplish my goals, they help me every day.”

HHS Coach Sonia Marin is extremely proud of her and the hard work she demonstrates on the field.

“Ingrid is a complete athlete with natural talent,” Coach Marin said. “Her skills can be seen on the field every time she gets the ball. All the long hours and club training have defined the player she is today.”

As a player, Ingrid stands out for her amazing speed and great ball control, as well as her leadership.

“She is a natural attacker,” Coach Marin added. “This year, I have seen her be a great leader. She makes scoring look easy, and we know it is not.”

Ingrid is also a two-time Express News Super Team member, and last year, she set the area’s single season scoring record with 68 goals in one season.

“I feel Ingrid has done what so many could only imagine. She has definitely taken Harlandale to a level of recognition, it is an honor for me to coach her,” Marin said. “Setting a record like hers will be a difficult task for many years to come.”

For Ingrid, this is just the beginning. She hopes to continue to play soccer at a higher level in college.

“I’m trying to play college soccer and get a full ride,” she said. “I’m also going to try my hardest to go pro – that’s my dream.”

Congratulations, Ingrid! You make HISD proud!
