The Harlandale and McCollum High School Bands received “Superior” ratings at the UIL Region 11 Marching Band Contest at Rutledge Stadium on Oct. 20.

HHS Band Director Juan Rodriguez and McCollum Band Director Gilbert Borrego were excited to see their students perform at their very best, making Harlandale ISD proud.

This marks the seventh year in a row that the McCollum Band has received a "First Division" rating at the UIL Region 11 Marching Band Contest.

“It was the best performance of the season and for it to happen at UIL was all that better,” Borrego said. “We are very proud of our students and how far the show has come this marching season.”

The band directors would also like to extend a special thank you to all parents, teachers, boosters and community members for all their support throughout this marching season!

After celebrating this exciting achievement, both bands will focus on different competitions taking place next month.

“The Percussion section will continue to refine and hone the show as they prepare for the South Texas Classic a percussion contest hosted by Brandeis High School,” Rodriguez said.

The McCollum Band is also the first band on a waiting list to be entered to perform at the Bands of America "Super Regional" contest at the Alamodome on Nov. 2-3.

There are a total of 84 bands from all across Texas that will compete at the Bands of America event.

Congratulations and good luck, band students!
