Harlandale ISD Information Services Director Ms. Myrna Martinez recently earned the Certified Education Technology Leader (CETL) designation by passing a rigorous certification exam.

The CETL certification, awarded by the Consortium of School Networking (CoSN), signifies that Martinez has mastered the knowledge and skills needed to bring 21st century technology to K-12 school systems.

Since education technology leaders come from different backgrounds, the certification was created to ensure that chief technology officers possess the full range of knowledge and skills needed to help their school district succeed and attain its goals.

“This certification validates that even though I was never a teacher or a principal, I understand what I need to do to support them,” said Martinez. “This was a validation for me, but it was also very good instruction, because it was so focused.”

Martinez began her training back in January. She completed coursework online, attended conferences and instructional workshops that led to the actual certification. The exam consisted of 110 timed questions an essay portion that focused on skill areas critical to education technology leaders.

Martinez is now one of the 246 registered Certified Education Technology Leaders in the State of Texas.

To maintain the designation, Martinez must complete 60 hours of professional development activities every three years. This means that she will stay current in the every-changing field of education technology.

Congratulations, Ms. Martinez!
