JWC comes together for plate sale

Jewel Wietzel Center staff, parents and students teamed up to host a delicious plate sale on Nov. 11.

The campus was looking at different ways to raise money for different projects they have throughout the year, and JWC Job Coach Ernest Madrigal brought up the idea of hosting a plate sale. Soon, they had volunteers and donations from the community.

Even the HOPS students helped bake the desserts.

It was great to see everyone just come together,” JWC Principal Jennifer Tamaren said.

Funds raised will go toward Community Based Instruction Trips, which facilitate independent living skills.

As part of the trips, students take the VIA bus with JWC staff, order from a menu and pay for their food.

“They get to really practice communication and social skills,” Tamaren added.

The JWC provides money for the food and pays for the VIA passes.

The funds will also help provide materials for different fundraisers throughout the year, including their dog treat sales, Crayola molds and button pins.
