Jewel Wietzel Transition students participated in community based instruction at H.E.B. Plus and South Park Mall on Oct. 12.  The students strengthened their social skills and had an opportunity to interact with community members while also receiving classroom instruction in the community.

“At H.E.B. Plus, the students participated in a store wide scavenger hunt where they were able to work in teams comparing prices on various groceries and learning valuable living skills,” Jewel Wietzel teacher Gary Henson explained.

The students then made a stop by South Park Mall where students took a proactive approach to increase awareness and advocate for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

“The students handed out buttons with a pink ribbon symbol created by Jewel Wietzel H.O.P.S. students. While handing out buttons, the students also provided facts and statistics about breast cancer to others who took interest,” Henson said.
