The Jewel Wietzel Center (JWC) hosted its first annual campus-based Mini-Health and Wellness Expo on Feb. 19.

Organized by JWC Social Worker Jacqueline Smith, the expo was designed to connect JWC families with local community agencies focused on enhancing overall health.  The event was free of charge, and attendees were able to receive free health screenings relating to diabetes, hypertension and weight management. They also received information about healthy eating habits, hydration, vision and dental wellness in addition to a myriad of other important public health issues.  All who participated were also entered into a raffle for a chance to win gift certificates and gift cards to Babcock Health & Wellness, Chick-Fil-A, Subway, Starbucks and Mary Kay.

Participating vendors included Centro Med, University Health System (Carelink , Harlandale ISD School-Based Clinic, and Mammography), Metro Health, Babcock Health & Wellness, Tru Fit Gym, Brident Dental, Mary Kay, Southwest Schools of Business and Community First Health Plans.

“This was a great opportunity for our students, families and staff to connect with local agencies and obtain information that improve their overall health and well-being,” Smith said. “This event was a success and will hopefully be the first of many held on this campus.”
