Leal Middle School’s Student Council, Girl Scouts, and IMPACT groups partnered up for the school’s first Serve Day on Dec. 12.

All students on campus were invited to volunteer their time before school to create gifts for the San Jose Nursing Home.

More than 50 Leal Middle School students dedicated their time before school to make special gifts for the residents at San Jose Nursing Home on Dec. 12.

Each grade level was responsible for creating different gifts. Sixth grade students decorated poinsettias, seventh graders wrote letters in Christmas cards and eight grade students painted Christmas ornaments.

“It was endearing to see all of our students diligently working to brighten some of our local senior citizens lives this holiday season,” said Amanda Garcia, seventh grade IMPACT co-sponsor.

Seventh grade student Nievez Lerma is one of the many students that enjoyed participating in Serve Day.

“I feel that the people are going to be happy to receive these gifts for the holiday season,” Nievez said.

The gifts will be delivered to the San Jose Nursing Home next Tuesday, Dec. 18.

Leal Middle School Serve Day was thought of by Principal Ricardo Salmon. The campus hopes to continue the tradition for years to come.

Great job, Leal MS Apaches!
