Leal MS students strengthened their complex problem solving skills by attending the school’s first GT Academy on Saturday.

Students were divided into teams of three consisting of a GT student from each grade level. The three students in each team then worked together to solve complex math and logic problems.

“Working with other GT students from all grade levels allows a great opportunity to learn from one another,” math teacher Michael Calderon said. “It also provides a rigorous challenge to help prepare them for more advanced mathematics.”

The problems were logic based and involved basic operations so that the younger students could be just as capable of solving the problems.

According to Calderon, the students really enjoyed the challenge.

“The event was very successful,” Calderon added. “All of the students were working hard and as a team to solve the problems.”

The campus hopes to host GT Academies for other content areas in the future.
