McCollum High School senior Stefanie Esquivel will go on to play college basketball at Schreiner University.

The talented point guard officially signed her letter of intent Monday afternoon at the school’s Main Gym surrounded by her parents, coaches, administrators, teammates and friends.

“I’m very proud of her,” Coach Rudy Fernandez said. “This is my third year coaching her, and she’s definitely going to be missed. She has pure talent that is hard to find.”

During her four years at McCollum, Stefanie proved she can do it all. She can score, rebound and pass, making her the perfect candidate to play at the next level. She credits her family and coaches for shaping her into the player and person she is now.

“I couldn’t have done it without any of them pushing me every day,” she said. “I’m especially thankful for my parents for always being there for me at every game, it means a lot.”

Stefanie began to play basketball at the age of 5 and hopes to continue to grow as a player in college.

“Basketball is my heart, it’s my first love,” she added. “It’s crazy to say, but it truly is. It has helped me through everything and has kept me motivated this whole time. I hope to be a better player and obtain my degree.”

Principal Jacob Garcia was also in attendance to personally congratulate Stefanie and her family for a job well done.

“We share your accomplishments and success, and we thank you for sharing your talent with us and our community,” Principal Garcia said.

Congratulations, Stefanie!
