McCollum High School senior Alysia Garcia officially signed her letter of intent to play volleyball at Huston-Tillotson University on May 16.

Family, friends, coaches and administrators gathered at the Main Gym to share this special milestone with Alysia and to congratulate her on her success.

“What’s exciting is that Alysia wasn’t just an athlete, she was a student athlete and she worked just as hard on the court as she did in the classroom,” McCollum HS Principal Jacob Garcia said. “She is going to be a great ambassador for McCollum HS.”

Alysia was an All-District volleyball player the last four years, she earned All –Academic the past four years and was the Varsity starting setter the past four years.

“Her hard work has paid off and we are glad to finally see this day come,” McCollum Volleyball Coach Rose Ann Martinez said.

For Alysia, this has been a dream come true.

“I knew I wanted to play college ball since I first played in seventh grade at Terrell Wells Middle School,” Alysia said.

She thanks Coach Martinez for believing in her and helping her reach her goal. Alysia will miss the strong bond she had with the team, but she is looking forward to meeting new people and starting the next chapter in her life.

Alysia will be majoring in biology and hopes to ultimately become a dentist.

Way to go, Alysia!
