McCollum HS percussionists win at Harlandale Marching Festival

The McCollum High School Band has done it again!

The band’s percussion section won first place at the Harlandale Marching Festival held at Harlandale Memorial Stadium on Oct. 8, marking the band’s third consecutive win in this competition.

“The percussion students work very hard, and it feels great to win big at our home stadium three years in a row!” MHS Director of Percussion John Perez exclaimed. “Representing our school at this contest is a huge deal for our students, and we look forward to continuing the tradition.”

A total of 15 high schools participated in the festival, including: Leakey, Brackett, Carrizo Springs, Devine, Poteet, Lytle, Boerne Champion, McCollum, Memorial, East Central, South San, Jourdanton, Natalia, Cotulla and Karnes City.

The MHS Band placed second place overall in the competition, while percussion competed in the 5A Classification beating out Boerne Champion HS and Memorial HS.

The band players continue to demonstrate that hard work eventually pays off.

“The students push every week to achieve excellence,” Perez said. “Every rehearsal is treated like a performance.”

This is McCollum’s percussion second (first place) win of the school year as they previously won “Outstanding Percussion” at the Seguin Marching Festival two weeks ago.

“We want to thank our wonderful parents and supportive administration team for all their hard work and efforts. We have success because of their support and contribution to the McCollum Band program,” Perez concluded.
