When Ricardo Marroquin became principal at Harlandale Middle School two years ago, one of his top priorities was to build school pride by beautifying the campus.

A new mural has done just that.

Last year, he reached out the Art Club and asked them to create a mural that showcased the Braves spirit. The students immediately jumped on the idea and started thinking of ways to brighten up the campus and express their creativity.

The end product is a colorful mural that spells out BRAVES SPIRIT and every letter showcases a tribal or nature spirit image.

For Marroquin, the mural has a lot of significance.

“It’s something made by the students that belongs to the school, and it’s something that shows their school spirit and their artistic abilities,” Marroquin said.

According to art teacher Amy Jones, the project brought out the best in the students.

“They showed a lot of determination and team work in getting this done,” Jones said.

The students began working on the project last school year and all the hard work has finally paid off.

“It came out fantastic,” Marroquin said. “The students did a great job and I am very pleased with it.”

Great job, Mighty Braves!
