Inspired by the Mexican tradition of Las Posadas, Rayburn Elementary hosted its second annual “Fiesta de la Posada” on Dec. 19.

The big celebration kicked off with a mini parade, followed by beautiful performances from every grade level. The students sang and danced to holiday songs like “Feliz Navidad” and performed the play “Christmas Café.” Proud parents applauded and cheered after every performance.

The Dual Language team worked together to make this year’s event bigger and better.

“Our main goal is for us to come together as a family to celebrate our unique culture,” Dual Language Teacher Evelyn Bushart said. “The kids were adorable, and our teachers and parents are amazing.”

Dual Language Teacher Elisa Tellez-Treviño agreed and added that the event is also a great opportunity to promote the dual language program in our community.

“The teachers worked together, and in the end, it all came together perfectly,” Tellez-Treviño said.

After the performances, families enjoyed delicious tamales, champurrado, hot cocoa, pan dulce and hojarascas.

In true posada fashion, the event wrapped up with two piñatas!

Bushart hopes the event continues to grow in the future and plans to add parent performances next year.

“I know a lot of our parents have a mariachi or dance folklorico, so that would be amazing to add to our program,” Bushart concluded.
