Humanities Texas selected STEM Early College HS English Teacher Paula Dolloff as a 2017 Outstanding Teaching of the Humanities Award recipient.

Dolloff is one of 10 teachers in the state to receive this prestigious award presented in recognition of exemplary contributions in the humanities field.

During the 2017-2018 school year, Dolloff will receive a $5,000 check for herself and a $500 check to purchase humanities materials or to improve humanities courses and programs at her campus.

Dolloff was nominated for the award by STEM ECHS Principal Eddie Rodriguez and was humbled when she found out she was selected.

She credits her competitiveness for the award to the support she receives from her colleagues.

“I think one of the reasons I was able to win is because I am constantly pushed by my colleagues to be a better teacher,” Dolloff said. “I think that the fact that there are so many professional development opportunities within this district and within the state of Texas has helped me to become a much better teacher.”

Dolloff added that her primary goal is doing what is in the best interest of her students. She teaches ninth grade English and tutors STEM ECHS students taking 1301 and 1302 at Palo Alto College.

“If you’re doing your job as a teacher, then you’re probably learning more from the students than they are from you,” Dolloff said. “They teach me so much every day, and the group that I have this year in particular is just an amazing group, they are just very sweet and they are very intelligent.”

She added that she is thrilled to represent Harlandale ISD and STEM ECHS in this way.

“Receiving this award is a culmination of having such amazing students and colleagues that push me to be better,” Dolloff said.
