Students catch Spanish Spelling Bee Buzz

It’s that time of year again! Harlandale ISD students are getting ready for the district Spanish Spelling Bee slated for Saturday, Nov. 4 at McCollum HS.

Several schools recently hosted their campus Spanish spelling bee competitions and among those is Bellaire Elementary.

Dual language students in third through fifth grade who chose to participate in the competition filled the Bellaire Elementary cafeteria stage to show off their spelling skills.

“The students have been practicing for about two months and it’s been all independent, they worked at home and sometimes during recess so they’ve all taken it to heart and they have all been very excited,” Bellaire Dual Language Teacher Veronica Sanchez said. “We have a good mix of third through fifth grade students.”

This is the fifth year that Bellaire Elementary hosts a campus Spanish Spelling Bee and the students all look forward to it. The top three winners won bragging rights and a spot at the district level spelling bee.

Congratulations to first place winner Fernanda Urbiola, second place winner Fergie Olivares and third place winner Omar Lechuga.
