Harlandale ISD Superintendent Rey Madrigal held the last Student Advisory Committee meeting of the school year on May 22.

The committee is made up of sixth through 12th grade students from Harlandale ISD who display qualities of excellence in education, leadership, citizenship and community service.

The purpose of SAC is to place high achieving students in a leadership role that will give them one-on-one access to some of the top administrators in our district.

The last meeting, held in the PDC at Central Office, focused on how to keep Harlandale safe.

Executive Director of Operations Jerry Soto was on hand to talk to the students and to answer any questions they had.

Madrigal emphasized that the district has spent $4.5 million in cameras and surveillance in the last two years and that they record 24/7 to help keep our students and faculty safe. He also added that our Police Department is constantly training to be ready for any situation.

Madrigal then asked students to be ambassadors and spread the slogan, “If you see something, say something.” The Anonymous Alerts banner on our district website is a great resource to report something suspicious.

Students also shared their own ideas on how increase school safety even more. District administrators will be reviewing their suggestions in the days to come.

Let’s keep Harlandale safe, HISD Family!
