Harlandale ISD Announces new leadership at two campuses and central office

San Antonio - May 19, 2020 - Harlandale ISD welcomes two new Principals and a new Director of Curriculum and Instruction.

The new leaders have been part of the Harlandale ISD family for a number of years and have demonstrated their leadership skills throughout the various roles they have held. Their utmost priority as a whole has always been to educate and help students succeed.

“We are very excited to welcome these talented individuals into their new roles and we look forward to working with them to continue helping our students expand their knowledge and skills,” Harlandale ISD Superintendent Gerardo Soto said. “We welcome them to their new roles and will be by their side every step of the way to provide them the support to enrich the learning of our students.”

Julia Gimbel, a Harlandale High School Alumni, will serve as new principal for Adams Elementary for the school year 2020-2021. Gimbel has worked at Harlandale ISD nearly 15 years in various roles including Special Education Liaison at Terrell Wells Middle School, Special Education Teacher at Frank Tejeda Academy and Vestal Elementary and most recently as Academic Dean for Gillette Elementary. Gimbel holds a baccalaureate degree in Kinesiology from Texas A&M University-Kingsville and a master’s degree in Education Administration from Texas A&M University- Kingsville. 

Gimbel looks forward to her new roles and welcomes the opportunity to serve the students of her new school and community. “I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of Harlandale. I’m even more humbled to be able to give back to the community that raised me. I spent my childhood in the hallways of Adams Elementary, and now I can step on the same ground leading it,” Gimbel said. “With the hardworking teachers and staff, we are going to make Adams a place of hard work, determination, creativity, and most importantly heart.”

Geralynn Wing was named new principal of Gilbert Elementary School for the 2020-2021 school year. She brings over 20 years of experience in the field of education to her new role. Wing was most recently serving as Academic Dean for Morrill and Vestal Elementary Schools since 2012. She holds a baccalaureate degree in Elementary Education from the University of Texas-San Antonio, a masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ and a masters degree in Administration from Lamar University.

“When looking forward to the next step in my career, I have always believed teamwork, passion, dedication, and hard work are all constants that create success,” Wing said. "This is an unbelievable opportunity to give back to the community that saw me grow up."

Michael Littlefield will be the new Director of Curriculum and Instruction after serving as principal at STEM Early College. He brings 27 years of educational experience to his new role. Littlefield began his teaching career at Harlandale ISD in 1993 as a math teacher and has also taken on other roles including Data,Information and Reporting Coordinator, Vice Principal for Curriculum and Instruction, Accelerated Learning Specialist and Department Chair for Mathematics. Littlefield holds a baccalaureate degree in Mathematics and a master’s degree in Statistics from the University of Texas- San Antonio. 

In his new post, Littlefield will play a pivotal role in the design and launch of secondary curriculum across Harlandale ISD. 

 “I am in awe of all of the hard work and creativity that has been taking place throughout the district and I am excited for the opportunity to assist campuses as they navigate the challenges that still lay before us,” Michael Littlefield said.

All three are excited and ready to kick off the 2020-2021 school year scheduled to begin Aug. 24, and will be planning for it throughout the summer months.
