Harlandale ISD hosts second PAC meeting

Harlandale ISD leaders met with parents from across the district to host the second Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting of the school year at the Sosa Parent Center on Oct. 17.

The meeting is an opportunity for the parents to bring forward any questions, concerns and recognition with HISD leaders and learn about the many resources available for students and families in the district.

“It was a full house this month at our monthly PAC meeting,” HISD Family and Adult Education Coordinator Sylvia Servin said. “Parents left with a wealth of information from things going on at the district level to community events in which they can participate from parent meetings and PTA to campus festivals.”

HISD Coordinator of Librarians and Instructional Materials Lisa Kulka kicked off the meeting with useful information regarding free library services available to parents and students. Parents learned how to check out books from the school library, how to access eBooks from the San Antonio Public Library with their Harlandale login information, digital resources to help with homework and how to access the student reading app called Sora.

HISD Police Sergeant Russell Valdez shared valuable safety information with parents about security and safety in the district. He also answered several questions from parents and encouraged them to report any suspicious activity to their 24/7 safety line 210-932-SAFE.

The meeting also discussed Title I and Title IV funding, RootEd information and upcoming district events such as College Night and Frontier Bowl.

“Everyone was excited to learn about the many things that our campus libraries have to offer, and they were encouraged to share the wonderful things going on at the campus level using the #RootEdinHarlandaleISD via social media,” Servin added. “It is always great seeing our parents and district personnel sharing ideas and learning from each other, instilling our motto that Together Is Better!”

The next meeting will be on Friday, Nov. 22. If you would like further information on any of these topics, please contact Sylvia Servin by calling (210) 989-4482.
